EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Academy Sports + Outdoors donated $3,000 worth of baseball and softball equipment to the Border Youth Athletic Association.
The event took place Thursday at noon at the retail store located at 201 S Americas Avenue.
Academy Sports + Outdoors donated to help the league gear up for Opening Day.
“We are so excited to have this community partnership. We have our opening day this Saturday. Academy generously donated these gift cards to us at a time when we needed it most,” said Darby Episcopo the Executive director of the Border Youth Athletic Association.
About 400 kids will benefit from the donation.
“We know that playing baseball is expensive as well as softball so we wanted to make sure that we give back to the community and this is our way of giving back,” said Sil Lopez the store director of Academy Sports + Outdoors the east location.
The league will be able to shop Academy’s wide assortment of and softball gear, training equipment and much more.
Originally founded in 1938 as a family business in Texas, Academy has grown to 268 stores across 18 states.
